Maya Fernandez

Yoga Teacher

Maya’s journey with yoga began at just eight years old, when she attended Kid’s Yoga during the school holidays.

What stayed with her was the kindness of her teacher, not only towards every student, but towards their own bodies. Years later, in high school, Maya returned to yoga to help navigate anxiety and once again found herself moved by the practice of self-kindness. From massaging her feet in a forward fold to wrapping herself in a gentle hug after Savasana, these simple moments showed Maya that yoga could be an avenue for cultivating a deeper sense of self-love.

After years of personal practice, Maya completed her 200-hour Vinyasa Tantra Yoga Teacher Training in 2020 and has since taught yoga and meditation across Western Australia.

Maya is passionate about the way these ancient teachings can guide us back towards our innermost sense of peace. She believes that feeling safe, regulated and creatively alive within ourselves is our birthright as human beings. Her classes weave together Traditional Chinese Medicine’s Five Element Theory, somatic practices and nervous system regulation, with movement that is intentional, spacious and often slower in pace.

Outside the studio, you’ll find Maya in the garden, learning to better tend to her soil, vegetables and fruit trees. She is a joyful chef who often caters for yoga retreats and film sets, and more often than not, can be found singing or strumming her guitar.

Maya teaches Monday morning Vinyasa Flow and every fortnight on Sunday afternoon, Vinyasa & Yin.
